latest blackberry torch

Research In Motion (RIM), maker of the New Blackberry 9800 Torch, presented Tuesday at an event held in New York, United States, represents much more than launch a phone. The unit is the main focus of the company to re-grow in the smartphone market, which in recent years has seen competition to intensify, especially with the arrival of the iPhone from Apple. Study published by IDC reveals that RIM has lost 1.5 percent in the first quarter of 2010 over the same period last year. Apple gained 5.2 percentage points.

Dubbed the “iPhone killer”, the New Blackberry 9800 Torch is considered the best BlackBerry ever made. To counter the popular Apple’s smartphone, the manufacturer has developed a model that combines conventional keyboard with touch-sensitive screen. The phone features a new web browser and a new operating system that improve the usability of the device. The 9800 Torch arrived at American stores on August 12th for $ 199. “The new machine puts the company back in the fight for market,” said Ross Rubin, analyst at NPD Group, the news agency Dow Jones Newswires.

New Blackberry 9800 Torch - The bitter custody battle in the smartphone market has explanation: the growth in sales. According to analysts, in 2013 smart phones will represent 27% of the worldwide market for phones. In some regions of the world, like Europe, this number may be even higher: 60% of the market. A study by IDC reveals that the smartphone market grew 38% in the second quarter of 2010, just over half the growth registered by Apple. By the end of next year, the consultancy expects the market will be over 300 million active smart phones.

The momentum of the global smartphone market has increased sales of handsets. In the second quarter of 2010, Apple sold 8.4 million iPhones, up 61% over the same period last year. With this, the company Steve Jobs has increased its market share by one percentage point, reaching 3% of the market. Research In Motion has already sold more equipment, 11.2 million units, up 40% over the same period in 2009.

Evolution New Blackberry 9800 Torch. The first BlackBerry model was launched in mid 1999. Was kind of a pager that exchanged information with other devices. The version with email, Internet access and messaging programs hit the market three years later. For a long time, the unit was named as the most important smartphone available in the market and the company has surpassed 100 million units sold. Things began to change in 2007, when Apple decided to enter the market and launched the iPhone. In just three years, the company has sold 33.5 million units.

Smartphones x tablets

The New Blackberry 9800 Torch comes at a difficult time for the Research In Motion. Last Sunday, the UAE government announced it would ban the use of some phone services, such as Internet access, email programs and exchanges of messages. According to local authorities, the encryption of data exchanged by the devices difficult to track criminals and terrorists. For activists, it is a way to better manage the information exchanged in the conservative country. Saudi Arabia studying adopt the same type of restriction.

The last about New Blackberry 9800 Torch. In the coming months, Research In Motion dispute with Apple will no longer be limited to the smartphone market. The Canadian manufacturer is preparing a tablet to compete with the IPAD, Apple. According to industry experts, the new device will be called BlackPad and should be released in November. According to reports, the tablet of Research In Motion will have the same size and features of IPAD, with some news. One of these innovations is the presence of two cameras, which enable videoconferences.

classic samsung star touch

We have almost made it to the finale, but first there is good and bad news. Let´s get started with the latter. In-call quality is disappointing to say at the least. We could hear people loudly, but voices turned out to be monotonous and muffled, not to mention there was that constant crackling noise that prevented us from being able to catch onto what people were saying most of the time. The other issue we encountered was mediocre battery performance. According to the official specification list, the phone should be able to provide 10 hrs of continuous talk time and over 800 hrs in standby, but that can´t be further from the truth. We couldn´t even get it to last for a single day with like an hour of calls, less than 30 min web surfing, uploading 3 or 4 pictures on Facebook and typing in no more than 5 or 6 text messages. What a shame!

Now, to the good news. The Samsung Star S5230 performs well and is snappy for a phone on a budget. To sum up, it takes snapshots with great quality, packs an able, fully functional browser and comfy QWERTY keyboard. On the other hand battery doesn´t seem to last nearly enough and in-call quality is mediocre. We would rather get the LG Cookie because of its (more) responsive touch screen, better in-call quality and uprated battery life.

samsung i9000

The Samsung GALAXY S I9000 is a typical rectangular representative of the big touchscreen phone; with the recessed screen just a little below the rim of the casing, it is protected from direct contact with hard surfaces when placed face-down. As expected from a 4” display, most of the frontal space is occupied by it but with room spared above and below it for the earpiece and navigational buttons.

The three keys below the screen are home, physical menu and back. Holding the context menu key fires up the smart search function, so we actually have all four standard Android keys present. The other elements above the screen are the earpiece slit, a front facing VGA cam, and the sensors for proximity and ambient light. The back hosts the 5MP camera lens in the upper left corner while the speaker grill is located on the right. Below those lies the “with Google” branding, which hints a full-featured Android device, with the whole set of Google services preinstalled, ever subtly.

Samsung also included a sliding lid over the microUSB port at the top of the Samsung GALAXY S which prevents dirt and lint from clogging the port. The top also houses the 3.5mm audio jack, which also serves as a S-video port for TV-out, but only if you buy the additional cable. While it would have been nice to have an HDMI-out port instead, Samsung has obviously decided to leave the GALAXY S out of the multimedia battles. The exterior exudes a simple yet streamlined design.

The handset’s design is more practical and comfortable for holding thanks to a hump at the very bottom of its back cover. The Galaxy S is only 0.39” (9.9mm) which is a very praiseworthy achievement due to the technology behind the 480×800 pixels WVGA Super AMOLED screen. With Samsung having disposed of the air layer between the touch sensitive panel and the display, and instead placed the touch sensor directly over it, almost like coating, with a thickness of about 0.000040” (0.001 mm) while weighing a measly 119 grams in total. It has wider viewing angles as compared to others and is very usable under direct sunlight thanks to the lack of air pocket in the Super AMOLED technology. With the Super AMOLED as great as it is, the only flaw is that small texts are pretty hard to read due to every pixel being visible; probably due to a low ppi(pixels per inch) count.
